In 2016, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs introduced the Oman Pilgrims e-Registration System. This comprehensive system allows individuals interested in performing the Hajj pilgrimage to register their applications. Subsequently, the allocation is distributed among the registrants, and they are sorted in the system according to criteria set by the ministry.
Before the digital transformation:
- Reliance on the principle of distributing quotas among Licensed Hajj companies.
- High Hajj prices and monopolisation of quotas by companies.
- Failure to achieve fairness in distributing Hajj opportunities among those interested in going.
After the digital transformation:
- Provision of an accurate national database for pilgrims from Oman.
- Allowing licensed Hajj companies to include comprehensive service portfolios, including service type and price.
- Facilitating the registration of requests from those interested in performing the Hajj pilgrimage, followed by the distribution of quotas among registrants and sorting them in the system.
Impact of the digital transformation:
- Serving more than 40,000 users during the Hajj season, with a number of operations exceeding 100,000.
- Providing job opportunities for more than 250 members in Hajj companies and at least 500 seasonal job opportunities.
- Creating a competitive environment among Hajj companies, contributing to improving services and reducing prices by 37.5%.
- Ensuring fairness in distributing available opportunities among candidates.
- Facilitating the exchange of data between relevant authorities in Hajj affairs.
